The West Lafayette Police Department is hosting a public information session to provide a clear look at how WLPD uses Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology - including what vehicle information the cameras capture, what they do not, when officers may search ALPR information, how the information can assist an investigation, and the safeguards and limitations governing its use.

At the heart of this discussion is an important principle: civil rights and public safety are not competing interests.

The goal is transparency and education. Questions are encouraged.
